Bullfighter

To a bull rider the bullfighter is the most important man in the arena, no one else is there to save him from danger. Since bucking bulls are not known for their gentle nature, once off the bulls back and on the ground, the rider is at the bulls mercy, so it is the bullfighters job to get the bulls attention and let the rider get to safety.

The bullfighter has the riders safety as his first concern. Bullfighters must have an ability to know where the bull is headed and when. Not only must the bullfighter be a finely conditioned athlete, but he must be willing to lay his life on the line for every cowboy.

Barrelman

Though a barrelman's attire is similar to that of the bullfighter, his presence in the arena serves a much different purpose. His duty is to entertain the crowd during the downtime. From when the chutes are being loaded to an unexpected break in the action. The barrelman takes over and amuses the crowd with comedy and laughs.

Chute Boss

The quarterback of the rodeo production, keeping everything moving and on schedule. He makes sure all the animals are loaded properly and prepared for competition. The Chute Boss is just that "THE BOSS".

When he says jump someone does. It is an important job that requires dedication, love for the sport of rodeo, knowledge and experience.

Pick up men

What the bullfighter is to the bull rider, the pick up man is to the bronc rider, Saviors.

Good pick up men are the end product of years of experience in the rodeo arena, they have one of the most exciting jobs in the rodeo and have to proform ththier tasks with a high degree of efficiency, if they fail contestants or animals may be injuried.

Like the cowboy saving bull fighter, the pick up men are charged with taking care of the cowboy at the end of his ride. They must ride highly trained horse to up to the side of the bucking horse as the whistle blows and remove the rider.

Timing is an important factor in their maneuvers as a split second’s error could result in being exposed to the heels of a high kicking bucking horse.

Rodeo Announcer

"The most important man to the audience."

Often called the commentator, it is his job to be the play by play man, interact with the crowd, contestants and sometimes livestock. The rodeo announcer lets you know what contestant is up, where they are from and a brief back round or history, he does the same for the livestock. A good announcer can make the rodeo much more enjoyable.
